Blame it on the ‘90s fashion revival, but buffalo check is back in a big way.
The iconic plaid pairs two colors together— often black and a brighter hue like red or blue—in a crisscross pattern that makes a striking statement. The past couple of seasons, the runways have been filled with this look, for both men and women.
The pattern shows up in home furnishings, as well, in sometimes surprising places. Fabrics are the natural application, but rugs and even woven furniture get a boost with this bold pattern. In the outdoor space, the look can go two ways—in lighter hues, it’s fresh and fun, like a picnic blanket, whereas in darker shades of black and red, it lends a more rugged, outdoorsy air to a space.

ORIENTAL WEAVERS The Marina black-and-white buffalo check indoor/ outdoor rug is our top-selling pattern currently. Due to its popularity, we introduced five additional colorways—sand/white, gray/white, red/white, green/white and blue/white. While popular for outdoor settings, we are seeing a surge in consumers using outdoor rugs indoors. They are taking full advantage of the performance story—family-friendly, pet-friendly, ideal for high-traffic areas and easy to care for.
